Crate Training Puppy and Dog – 7 Steps

7 crate training tips for your puppy or your dog. When crate training your dog, you should take it slowly. You should only go as fast as your dog is comfortable.

1. Make sure the crate door is open. Bring your dog over to the crate and talk to it in a praising tone.

2. Drop some food treats just outside the crate entrance. After they’re gone, drop some more food treats just inside the crate. Repeat this process, dropping the treats further and further into the crate until your dog is all the way in. You need to have quality dog crate for crate training older dog.

3. Next, create a positive association with the crate. Begin feeding her meals in the crate. Only put the food dish as far inside the crate as your dog is happy to go. With each meal, push the dish a little further inside, until it’s all the way in.

4. When your dog is happily feeding in the crate, close the crate door. You should stay by the crate during these sessions. At the beginning, open the door as soon your dog finishes feeding. Then gradually increase the time the door is closed.

5. Next, get the dog used to going into the crate when it isn’t feeding time. Use a command like “Go Crate!” every time you want your dog to enter the crate. Encourage her in with a favorite toy or food treats. Praise her as soon as she’s in. Close the door and sit by the crate for a few minutes. Then let her out with more praise. You should always follow crate training schedule for your puppy.

6. Progressively build up the length of time you can leave your dog in the crate. Stay by the crate during these sessions. If your dog starts whining, you are progressing too fast. You require more patience for crate training adult dog.

7. Next, put the dog in the crate and leave the room. Return after a few seconds. Progressively build up the time you can leave the room. Again if the dog starts whining, you are proceeding too fast.
